New survey reports on underuse of AT in adult social care

The County Councils Network in England and telecare technology provider Tunstall have published a report on the role assistive technology currently plays in adult social care services across the country. It finds that three quarters of local authorities believe that the benefits of assistive technology are being only partially realised in their area. One of the recommendations that the report makes is to ‘facilitate improved education and training for social care professionals to ensure they are confident in utilising Assistive Technology within their role’.

DLF is a specialist provider of training for professionals involved in assessing, prescribing and installing assistive technology solutions. We have a wide range of courses and regularly produce bespoke courses for health, social care and housing organisations. We offer online, blended and face-to-face training at venues across the UK and we are renowned for our impartiality and practical approach. Our Trusted Assessor courses are the national qualification, our TEC course was developed in collaboration with professional bodies specialising in TEC solutions and our Home Adaptations courses are endorsed by Foundations.

At DLF we have always recognised the importance of AT and the role it plays in improving quality of life and independence for older people and people with disabilities. The report reinforces the importance of the work we are doing to support professionals to understand current and emerging AT, assess, prescribe and install appropriate AT solutions for their service users, through our training and services.
