Text to speech software
This section includes apps and software to convert text to speech.
Software used with a computer and scanner is used to convert printed documents into synthetic speech. This is often referred to as Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Included are apps for mobile devices that use the device’s camera to photograph text which is then turned into readable text.
Text-to-speech (TTS) apps and software uses computer-generated synthetic speech to read out each word of an electronic file. Some software will only read text that is pasted into a computer clipboard, some will read back text from files such as Microsoft Word, PDF files or emails, and some will read e-books which are computer files that contain the text of a book. Apps and software that read out loud from scanned documents are also included.
Some Braille creation software may also provide OCR.
