This section includes equipment to assist with planning and remembering routine tasks and activities.
Digital organisers may have a range of organiser features including a phone book, appointment organiser, alarm clock, notepad (which acts as a memo recorder) and calculator. The information may be retrieved by voice recognition and a limited number of tactile buttons. Memo recorders can record and play back a short recording such as a list of items, a telephone number or address. The user may record the information temporarily to use as a prompt or to transfer to an address/phone book.
Prompting devices may sound an audible tone or vibrate after pre-set periods of time or at specific times. Some may play a short pre-recorded message when they sense movement, others automatically display or play messages at pre-set times.
Devices that prompt a short sequence of actions required to complete a task, such as the steps to make a cup of tea. They can record short verbal prompts in a sequence. Each press of the button will then give a prompt such as "Now add milk". The photo albums could be filled with pictures showing each step of the task.
Day planners include wall-mounted boards or tablet-style devices that act as prompts for daily/weekly/monthly activities, including devices which provide reminder alarms that can be set for specific times.
Also included are Cloud-based interactive devices which may not prompt or plan, but do enable family to connect with the user for support. Note: These devices have not been developed specifically for the disability market.
