This section includes wall, floor and ceiling based equipment designed to provoke sensory stimulation, relaxation, enjoyment and exploration. It can also provide a learning environment for children with disabilities.
Some equipment may be used standalone, some may be integrated into existing multisensory environments. Some equipment can be switch-operated.
Floor based equipment includes fibre optic carpets and mats, interactive sound/light/touch flooring, projectors, and sound boxes and floor panels/tiles.
Wall based equipment includes fibre optic curtains, interactive sound/light/touch wall coverings and screens, wall panels/tiles and projectors.
Ceiling based equipment includes fibre optic ceilings; ceiling panels/tiles, mirror balls and projectors.
Tactile wall and floor panels and mats have different areas (static and moving) with a range of shapes and sensations. These all provide stimulation and different sensory experiences. Some of these walls and panels may also have auditory and/or visual experiences such as objects which react under UV lights or music. Several mats are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and some are made up of panels that can be linked together on the floor to make various shapes, or different sized mats.
