Speechbubble's description:
Designed by the father of an autistic child, the ProxTalker can best be described as a transition aid between PECS and the kind of linked messaging that a 'standard' communication aid will provide. Like PECS, you pick and place the card featuring the word you want, but with the ProxTalker you place it on one of five buttons, any of which will speak the word. This is possible because each card contains an RFID tag (the same technology that you see in the tags attached to clothes in fashion shops) that triggers its related message that's stored on the ProxTalker itself. It's worth noting that use of the ProxTalker is not restricted to PECS, and can be used across all age groups.
The ProxTalker is sturdily built and splashproof, and can withstand being thrown around. It's also deliberately designed to have no external controls on the case at all. Recording and erasing of messages, and even changing the volume, is done via a set of tags kept on a separate keyring.
