Trusted Advisor: Advising and Referring for Independence at Home

Purpose of the Course

To enable confident customer service staff to provide advice and explain the referral options for basic daily living aids. To understand common conditions and the health and social care services available.

The range of equipment includes:

  • Kitchen aids
  • Dressing aids
  • Mobility aids
  • Basic telecare

Course Length

This course is available through an e-learning module or can be delivered by an experienced trainer face-to-face over a full day. When delivered over face-to-face, there is some pre-course work that will need to be completed to satisfy the learning outcomes.

Pre-requisites

There are no specific requirements; however all DLF courses require a basic level of English language. Attendees will be expected to complete some pre-course work which will need to be submitted before the start of the course. You will have access to this after you have registered on the course.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand conditions and the impact on the ability to function
  2. Understand different roles within Health and Social Care
  3. Understand referral pathways for equipment and adaptations
  4. Know the range of disability equipment available and their purpose
  5. Know how to provide a quality customer experience
  6. Understand the role of the Trusted Advisor

Aimed at: 

  • Helpline staff
  • Shop assistants
  • Triage teams
  • Customer service staff

Accreditation

Every learner will be tested against the learning outcomes, this is completed through a variety of classroom assessments. Once passed, all learners will receive a certificate accredited by the OCN London.

Course Programme

The course aims to include a lot of practical elements therefore, if taking part in the face to face course, the learners must dress in comfortable clothing.
